Climbing for MND and Huntington’s Disease: Kakepuku 10 Challenge
Awareness, Community, Fundraising
24 November 2023
Earlier this month, Ruth Mylchreest – Waikato local, athlete and Te Whatu Ora- Waikato neurology clinical nurse specialist took on an incredible challenge to raise awareness and funding for people affected by MND and Huntington’s disease.
The challenge saw Ruth climb Kakepuku Mountain 10 times – a total distance of around 75km – on a rainy Saturday with challenging track conditions. Ruth’s training for the event was intense, and she had pushed herself to prepare for what was a mental and physical challenge but says it is nothing compared to the challenges of those she supports and cares for in her job.
We are very grateful to Ruth and completely blown away by the support she has received – Ruth has raised over $25,000, hugely exceeding her goal of $15,000.
All funds raised will be donated evenly to MND NZ and Multiple Sclerosis Waikato (who support people living with Huntington’s disease along with the support they provide for people living with multiple sclerosis).
