Support Team
MND New Zealand Support Team provides free, personalised support and advocacy for almost every person with motor neurone disease in New Zealand, from Stewart Island to Northland. They work together with people living with MND, and their families, to enable them to have the best quality of life possible.
What does a Support Team Advisor do?
Our Support Team Advisors help link their clients with the appropriate health care professionals from multi-disciplinary teams of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, and community nurses at every District Health Board in New Zealand.
Support Team Members can also act on their client’s behalf to navigate government agencies and specialist equipment services.
MND New Zealand Support Team Advisor Kate Moulson
Kate is one of eight specialist Support Team Advisors nationwide. She talks about how she supports her MND clients in the video below.
Kate says helping people with MND navigate the health system is a really important part of her job. “Quite often people who get MND are fit and healthy and have little idea about how it all fits together. I tend to be quite active in making sure people are linked into the right services at the right time.”
Living with MND is incredibly challenging, says Kate. “If I can make their journey easier and less stressful, it’s very rewarding,” she says.
