David Seymour: Advocate, mentor, and friend to our MND community

We’re deeply saddened by the recent death of David Seymour, a much-loved member of our Motor Neurone Disease NZ community.

David was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2017. He had built a successful career in real estate, was a high achiever with a sharp wit, and wasn’t one to back away from a challenge. That drive never left him.

He achieved remarkable professional goals after his diagnosis, became a mentor to others, and continued living with purpose and humour. Many of you may remember David’s Unusables — the Trade Me listings where he sold items he could no longer use, infused with wit, generosity, and heart. “I’ve still got something to offer,” he said. “Even if it’s just a laugh.”

David also used his voice to advocate for others, sharing his experience of living with MND in support of choice, dignity, and greater understanding. His reflections on living with a terminal diagnosis were honest, thoughtful, and powerful.

Through it all, David remained a great supporter of Motor Neurone Disease NZ. He helped raise awareness, funds, and, perhaps most importantly, hope.

We honour his strength, his humour, and the difference he made.
