💙 SEEKING VOLUNTEER ORGANISERS 💙
Walk to Defeat MND brings communities together to walk in honour, memory, and in support of people affected by motor neurone disease (MND) and raise awareness and much needed funds for research and support.
Walks vary between 3-5km, they are powerchair and pushchair friendly, fun for kids, and the dogs are welcome too. Some walks are big, vibrant events, with raffles, food, music, and entertainment, while others are smaller gatherings that almost take on the feel of a big family reunion.
Every walk is positive, powerful, colourful, community-building and life-affirming. People from all walks of life find strength together, united by their experiences with MND, with the shared purpose of creating hope for others.
Previous Walk to Defeat MND events raised funds to set up the NZ MND Registry, fund research such as Dr Emma Scotter’s genetic study and the Lighthouse II Phase 3 trial, plus ensuring the MND NZ Support Service can continue to provide personalised support and advocacy until a cure is found. Â
Each community walk is organised and led by incredible, passionate volunteers, many of whom have a personal connection to the disease.
💡 Could you host a walk in your area? 💡
Send us a message with your email and phone number and we’ll talk you through what’s involved, resources and tools available, and how we can help you plan a Walk to Defeat MND for your community. Â
Registrations to take part in Walk to Defeat MND open Wednesday 29 November, with tickets to attend a Walk Defeat MND community event priced at $20 for General Admission, $10 for children, and $5 for dogs. There’s no charge for people with MND to attend.
Ticket fees cover the cost of holding each event. This means every dollar raised through Walk to Defeat MND can go towards providing ongoing support services and funding research projects that aim to understand the disease better, develop effective treatments, and ultimately, find a cure.
We’ll publish the dates and locations of community events as they are confirmed. If you’re not already on our mailing list, sign up below for updates.
