We’re delighted to share the 2026 MND Community Recipe Book; a collection of soft food recipes created by, and for, New Zealanders living with motor neurone disease (MND).

When eating becomes more challenging, finding meals that are both enjoyable and easy to eat can take a lot of creativity. This recipe book brings together practical, tasty ideas that have been tried and tested by people living with MND and their families. Every recipe has been shared by members of the MND community, making this a resource built on real-life experience and generosity.

The project was coordinated by Robyn Pryor, who was diagnosed with MND in August 2022 and is the author of Still Time: Reflections on Love, Loss and Life.

Robyn says that for people who have reached the soft food stage of their MND journey, and for those caring for them, coming up with meal ideas can sometimes feel like a challenge.

“While we can flick through cookbooks and scroll through Google, it’s much easier to have one ‘go-to’ place for recipes, and even better if they’ve been tried and tested by Kiwis living with MND,” says Robyn.

To create the book, Robyn contacted members of the MND community through a Facebook group and gathered the recipes and meal ideas that people have found work well for them.

“Hopefully we have created a practical resource that will provide support and inspiration for those with MND and their carers,” says Robyn.

More than just a recipe book, this collection is an example of people coming together to help one another navigate the challenges of living with MND. It provides fresh ideas, makes mealtimes a little easier, and reminds readers that they are part of a connected and supportive community. Grateful thanks to Robyn and each person who contributed to this book which is freely available here and on the information resources page of the MND NZ website.
