Advocacy, Carers, Community
24 February 2026
The MND Insight Research confirms what our support advisors see throughout Aotearoa every day – unpaid family carers of people with MND experience a high level of carer burden.
The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is keen to hear your thoughts on a new draft Carers’ Strategy Action Plan. This plan is intended to support unpaid or informal carers in homes and communities. This will directly affect people caring for their family members with MND.
MND NZ will submit an organisational response to the proposed plan. This will incorporate your valuable responses to the MND Insight Research to address the overall need for care hours, challenges with assessments and the high levels of carer burden with MND. We are grateful to our community for this input that makes our advocacy so impactful.
We also encourage you to make individual submissions to address the challenges you face caring for loved ones with MND.
