When retired vet Jonathan Spencer found out in 2021 he had motor neurone disease, it was like being hit with a sledgehammer.
“The thing about it is people react in different ways when they get a diagnosis of a terminal disease. Some people just want to shut themselves off from the rest of the world. Other people want support,” he says.
Jonathan has now re-established a support group in New Plymouth, alongside Jennifer Smart whose mother died of MND.
