Trek for MND – Abel Tasman 2026: A purposeful challenge for Kiwi workplaces
Community, Events, Fundraising
16 February 2026
For many workplaces, 2026 is already shaping up to be a year where wellbeing, genuine connection, and meaningful community involvement matter more than ever. At MND NZ, we’re inviting organisations across the motu to take part in something that brings all of these threads together.
From 2–6 October 2026, we’re hosting Trek for MND – Abel Tasman, a fully guided five‑day charity trek through one of Aotearoa’s most iconic landscapes. It’s a challenge designed not only to inspire those who take part, but to genuinely make a difference for people and whānau living with motor neurone disease.
Why Trek for MND?
Motor neurone disease (MND) affects more than 400 people in New Zealand at any given time, often progressing rapidly and placing huge pressure on the individuals and families navigating it. By joining the Trek for MND, workplaces can play a meaningful role in ensuring we can continue providing personalised support, advocating for timely access to care and equipment, and investing in New Zealand–based research that improves quality of life.
But this trek is about more than fundraising. It’s about purpose, teamwork, and the kind of connection that happens when you step outside together.
A unique opportunity for workplaces
We’ve seen growing interest from organisations looking for experiences that combine wellbeing, team engagement, and social impact. Trek for MND offers exactly that — and there are several ways for workplaces to get involved:
✔ Sponsor a staff member
Support one employee to represent your organisation, take on the challenge, and fundraise on your behalf.
✔ Support a small internal team
Encourage a group within your company to train, trek, and fundraise together around a shared goal.
✔ Build a full workplace campaign
Some organisations choose to match employee fundraising or run internal activities to amplify their impact.
No matter the approach, workplaces tell us that their involvement strengthens culture, boosts morale, and gives staff something meaningful to rally around.
A fully supported adventure
Trek for MND is delivered in partnership with Inspired Adventures, who provide:
- Training plans and guidance
- Ongoing fundraising support
- A clear structure to help participants succeed
- A professional, experienced trekking team on the ground
Participants don’t need to be seasoned hikers — just motivated, open to a challenge, and willing to make a difference.
Why it matters
For many Kiwi workplaces, MND already feels close to home. Whether it’s a colleague, a family member, or a friend who has been affected, the impact of this disease is profound. Funds raised through this trek contributes directly to improving lives right here in Aotearoa.
And for those taking part, the experience often becomes a highlight of their year: a chance to build connection, spend time in the outdoors, and be part of something bigger.
