Sausages, beanies, and a whole lot of heart: $50,000 raised for MND NZ

2 July 2025

Thanks to the support of Bunnings, our amazing volunteers, and communities across Aotearoa, MND Action Month sizzled its way to a $50,000 milestone — helping make time count for people living with motor neurone disease.
On Saturday, 28 June, something special happened across Aotearoa.
From Whangārei to Invercargill, 42 Bunnings stores opened their doors and fired up the BBQs for Motor Neurone Disease NZ. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, the smell of sausages, beanies in stock, and the sound of community spirit filled the air — all in support of New Zealanders living with motor neurone disease (MND).
We’re deeply grateful to Bunnings for its support in helping us to raise $50,000 — and to every volunteer, store team, customer, and supporter who made the day such a success.
This nationwide event was part of MND Action Month 2025, a campaign aimed at raising awareness, sparking conversations, and funding the vital work MND NZ undertakes every day — from providing support services and advocacy to conducting research and education.
We’re incredibly grateful to:
- Bunnings, for their continued support
- The dedicated volunteers who gave their time, energy, and smiles
- Bunnings team members who helped make it all run smoothly
- Everyone who stopped by, grabbed a sausage, bought a beanie, or made a donation
These funds will go directly toward supporting people with MND across Aotearoa — providing essential equipment, trusted information, personalised support, and hope through research.
There’s still time to support
Limited-edition MND NZ beanies remain on sale at participating Bunnings stores until Saturday 6 July, or while stocks last.
