Taranaki Cathedral Breakfast

THE GOOD CAFE (formerly the Community Cafe) is a vibrant hub of hospitality and delicious breakfast every Tuesday morning, raising tens of thousands of dollars for various charitable projects.

As part of MND Action Month, The Good Café will be raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease NZ on Tuesday, 11 June.

“We cook a hot breakfast for everyone and anyone, and people pay what they can,” says Jennifer Smart, Office Manager at Taranaki Cathedral.

“A lot of our ingredients are donated through On The House or by different individuals, and the café is run by volunteers.”

The café most recently fundraised for Pride and The Neurological Foundation.

“My mother died from MND 32 years ago,” says Jennifer. “I started a support group in the 90s which ran for about 10 years, then I left town. I’ve recently started up another support group along with Jonathan Spencer, who has MND.

I’ve met so many wonderful, strong, positive people with MND over the years, including my mum, who was the biggest giver I have ever known, so I do this to carry on her mahi until I can’t, basically.”
