Halfway through MND Action Month — and what a start
Awareness, Community, Fundraising
18 June 2026
We’re more than halfway through MND Action Month, and already we’re seeing something powerful unfold across Aotearoa.
145 people have signed up to make time count — and together, you’ve raised over $100,000 towards our $160,000 goal.
This is real progress. And it belongs to all of you.
Every donation, every fundraiser, every shared post, every conversation — it all adds up. It helps ensure people living with motor neurone disease (MND), and their whānau, have the support they need, when they need it most.
A nationwide effort
A huge part of this momentum has come from communities stepping up in their own way.
One standout example is the Bunnings nationwide sausage sizzle, where more than 260 volunteers took to the tongs at stores across the country. Together, they raised an incredible $40,000 in a single day.
It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose.
And we’re seeing that same spirit everywhere — in workplaces, schools, churches, and homes — as people host Cuppa Teas, take on the Ice Bucket Challenge, and stand alongside those affected by MND.
Why it matters
MND is a progressive, terminal illness. It takes away the ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe.
There is no known cause. No cure.
And in New Zealand, two people are diagnosed every week.
That’s why MND Action Month matters. It’s about more than fundraising — it’s about visibility, connection, and making sure people living with MND are not facing this alone.
Chris’ story
As part of this year’s campaign, we’ve shared Chris’ story.
It’s a powerful reminder of the reality of MND, and the importance of support, awareness, and action.
There’s still time to make an impact
While we’ve made strong progress, we’re not at our goal yet.
There’s still time to be part of MND Action Month — in a way that works for you:
- ❄️ Take on the Ice Bucket Challenge
- ☕ Host a Cuppa Tea for MND
- 💙 Or simply donate
Whether your contribution is big or small, it all helps us continue to support clients and whānau across Aotearoa.
And if you’re already involved — thank you. We’d love to see what you’re doing. Share your photos, tag us, and help keep the conversation going.
Be part of it
MND Action Month is about making time count — and there’s still time to get involved.
