Charity Bridge in support of MND NZ on 20 August

Charity Bridge

MND NZ Board member Estelle and her husband Geoff have run an annual charity bridge tournament for many years, helping to raise money and awareness for a wide range of causes dearest to the Royle Epsom Bridge Club members.

“Because of the tightknit nature of the bridge playing community, bridge tournaments are an amazing way to raise money for causes that have impacted us in some way,” Estelle says.

“Everyone knows everyone, and when combined with doing something we all enjoy, the generosity flows with the fun of the tournament atmosphere.”

When husband Geoff was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2020, the bridge club opted to support MND NZ through the next tournament.

“COVID was a major impediment to keeping these tournaments going over the last few years, but through dedication and effort as well as the support of the bridge community we were able to hold one in 2020 which was much appreciated by everyone.”

Sadly, Geoff’s journey with MND was relatively short and he passed in September of 2021.

The Royle Epsom Bridge Club is hosting its 2023 Charity Bridge tournament in memory of Geoff and in support of Motor Neurone Disease NZ, with everyone welcome.
