Bunnings x MND NZ: Sausage sizzles, ice buckets, and making time count — together
Awareness, Community, Fundraising
16 June 2026
On Saturday 06 June, communities across Aotearoa showed what’s possible when people come together with purpose.
As part of MND Action Month, Bunnings stores nationwide hosted sausage sizzles in support of Motor Neurone Disease NZ — raising an incredible $35,898 for people living with motor neurone disease, and helping shine a light on a disease that doesn’t wait. Bunnings NZ have generously topped up the amount raised to $40,000.
More than 260 volunteers gave their time on the day, taking to the tongs, welcoming customers, and starting important conversations about MND. While sausages were sizzling, something more powerful was happening: awareness was growing, connections were made, and people living with MND were reminded they are not alone.
More than a sausage sizzle
Across the country, many Bunnings stores also hosted Ice Bucket Challenges — bold, visible moments that stopped people in their tracks and sparked meaningful kōrero about MND.
These moments matter. MND is a progressive, incurable disease that gradually takes away the ability to move, speak, eat — and eventually, breathe. There is no cure, which is why time matters so much.
The impact of your support
Funds raised through the Bunnings sausage sizzles will help MND NZ to:
- provide personalised support through our nationwide team of support advisors
- deliver clear, trusted information to whānau, carers and health professionals
- advocate for better access to services, equipment and support
- contribute to research that builds understanding and strengthens future responses.
All at no cost to the people who need it.
Thank you
We’re deeply grateful to Bunnings for standing alongside us — and to every volunteer, store team member, customer and supporter who helped make the day such a success.
Together, you helped make time count for the more than 400 New Zealanders living with MND, and for the whānau who support them.
One sausage. One conversation. One simple act of support — multiplied across the country.
