Meet the new Support Advisors
MND NZ, Support service update
5 April 2023

We’ve recently recruited two support advisors – Chevonne for the South Island and Angela in the Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Hawkes Bay and Tairawhiti region. This also means we sadly farewelled Hefina and Jane, and we thank them for their mahi in supporting their MND community.
Chevonne – South Island

Kia ora! I’m Chevonne and I have recently joined the MND NZ team as the Support Advisor for the South Island. I come with a background in aged care and working hands on with people with MND. Some of the Otago folk may recognise my name from working in Orthotics at the Dunedin hospital. I am so excited to be a part of the team and eager to continue to provide an exceptional support service to the MND Community.
When I am not at work you will find me adventuring with my two fur babies (Stuie the pug and Sashi the goldie), my two girls and my husband. I am based on the wonderful Taieri Plains in Mosgiel – just over the hill from Dunedin.
Angela – Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Hawkes Bay and Tairawhiti region

I grew up in Auckland but have lived in the Bay of Plenty for over 20 years with my husband and two children. I used to work in HR but became a support worker after the experience of being a family caregiver and long-term volunteer with a charity supporting disability.
I’m really interested in providing support to people and families going through the adjustment of living with a life-altering diagnosis like MND and look forward to working with everyone’s unique situation and finding individualised support.
MND Support Advisors provide free, personalised support and advocacy for almost every person with motor neurone disease in New Zealand, from Stewart Island to Northland. They work together with people living with MND, and their families, to enable them to have the best quality of life possible.
If you are not sure which support team advisor to contact, or have a general MND support question, please contact our Support Services Manager Jo Kelly, or 021 230 3038.
